Artist Interview & Art!

My illustrator, Justin Cherry, is better known as Nivbed. His website is here: http://www.nivbed.com

His work is concept art-ish, and he mostly does character design and scenic digital paintings. His colors are either incredibly intense or subdued to grays and browns. He answered my questions quite promptly!

1.) What's your favourite website/magazine/book/publication for inspiration?
I love reading Occult, Mythology, Mysticism, and New Age books. Those are the most inspirational to me.

2.) What was your favourite professional assignment?
I did a small 3d prototype for a game pitch that was never used back in 2006. That was a blast. I was able to use all my creative juices and at the same time use technology that was proprietary for the company I worked for.

3.) What do you do when you can't come up with ideas?
I do nothing if I can't come up with ideas. I don't think it is good practice to force art, because I think you reinforce bad habits when you do that.

4.) What advice would you give an aspiring illustrator/student?
I'd say that most importantly do work that you find inspires you back. Make it a loop of inspiration. If you can get riled up by your own stuff than surely others will.

5.) What is the best way to advertise yourself/get work?
Make sure you have a bangin' website, and post on any public art forum. CGhub, ConceptArt.org, apedogs.com, etc. all are looked at by industry professionals. That's how I landed my first art job.
